    If true it implies he does not have a competent, firm grasp on his file.

    It's possible that Guilbeault is reversing himself because there are different traditions regarding press licensing in francophone and anglophone world, and he and his office didn't immediately see that this would be a non-starter.

    That said, can we agree that "writing badly about people who aren't exactly like you" is not a crime? If "praiseworthy" vs "mob-cancelled" is dependent on literary quality we're all in deep trouble, because we all write badly sometimes. We only get the good if we tolerate the bad

    This is so staggeringly obvious that if you don't behave as if it is true you are probably an enemy of democracy.

    1. This is an obvious prediction, but I want to get it on record. The GOP just released Trump from any accountability for trying to cheat in the upcoming election. That's one sign of many that they are going to try to rig the election, in a range of illegal & semi-legal ways.

    I spent much of my career straddling the boundary, and have found more joy and professional success outside the ivory tower than within, although it does have its moments.

    This bears repeating: PhDs who end up working outside the academy (for whatever reason) are not failures. The academy has no monopoly on great and important work. There are great success to be had in other sectors. Enough already with the professional elitism.

    I'm thinking that "R senators are idiots for following Trump b/c they'll all lose in Nov" is a take that only people who don't know R schemes for voter suppression etc are buying. Assume your enemies know more than you do and their behaviour is rational in light of that knowledge

    I tell people to stop worrying about futuristic runaway smart AI, because it's stupid current AI that will kill us, this is what I mean. Someone bought a product that *literally* text-matched the word "charity" as 'good' and "vodka" as 'bad' and is making hiring choices with it.

    I had to get a background check for my job, and it turns out the report is a 300+ page pdf of every single tweet I’ve ever liked with the work “fuck” in it. Enjoy your dystopian bs! *waves*
