It is possible to believe both that Facebook is evil and that telling Facebook to pay a fee every single time anyone posts a link to a news site, but not any other kind of site, is completely insane

I would recommend anyone planning to have an opinion on Google and Facebook in Australia actually read the government’s explanation of the proposed law. Some observations. 1 /

For scale, just imagine testing *everybody* in NSW next week for , and then NT & Tasmania just to make up the count. 🙃 NSW had 26 locally acquired cases over the last week too (though China do exclude asymptomatic cases from their numbers).

It sounds like the only thing holding up a travel bubble between NZ and QLD/WA/NT/SA/Tas is the Federal government's insistence that all internal borders must open first. Ideology over pragmatism. should call it out.

I understand not wanting to put kids through this, but just like vaccinations it's something parents have to accept for the good of their kids and the society they live in. It's cold & flu season, so getting kids tested is a normal part of being a parent, quarantine or not.

Another (short) piece that's definitely worth reading. Since it's now experts versus experts and I've only just seen this, **I'm not making any statement about who is correct**. But the two main messages I take away from this, **if** it is correct, are as follows. 1/

The report from is one of the most informative, but scary things I have read. Anybody who thinks people are over reacting must read this. how is this report not headline news here?

Historically, many Australians have broken the law and suffered arrest in defence of their rights and freedoms, particularly in the formation of this nation's labour, antiwar & environmental movements. Should we really ask our nation's children to pledge never to do the same?

This sounds promising, though I can't help but think of how mycoprotein (which forms the basis of ) ultimately ended up as a niche product, derided for being "highly processed".

If you think it’s ridiculous that people refuse to accept the 97% of climate scientists that agree on anthropogenic global warming, try explaining that 100% of food scientists agree that MSG is safe.

I had not previously appreciated that the mildly derogative Australian term "drop kick" is rhyming slang - a contraction of "drop kick and punt".
