Last game, it damaged itself— tendinitis, Patty Fox had said. Strain in the muscles connecting the collarbone to the arm, requiring rest before the soreness became a full tear. 

this would be easier if i could be repaired, it told her.

“Yeah, I’m sorry, buddy,” she said, patting its undamaged shoulder in a physical expression intended to comfort. “It’s not very fast, but your body’ll repair itself. Just give yourself a break from practice while you’re off rotation, and if it gets any worse, we’ll get you to a doctor, alright?”

Teddy still does not wish to see a doctor. So it has taken the option in its own best interest and obeyed. 

However… it feels a persistent ache in its shoulder when it executes most actions, and a soreness even while at rest. An irritant that scrapes at its mind as much as at its pain receptors. A continual reminder of the perilously fragile makeup of its hardware. How its flesh so easily fails it.
