For years News Corp campaigned to repeal racial hatred protections in the Racial Discrimination Act (and failed). Because of “free speech”. Now, its co-chair sues Crikey for defamation. Of course, when it’s racial vilification, it’s just “hurt feelings”

Great to see this legislation, which among other things ensures appointments to the Australian Human Rights Commission are based on merit-based, publicly advertised processes. This should restore the standing the Commission, including in international human rights accreditation
