The @black_in_ai organizing committee has been working so hard. They've been working SO HARD. This is the first year that me, @red_abebe, Devin, Sanmi are actually able to do anything else.

This is the first time I've been able to even work on a paper at this time because they've been working so hard. Esube, Ezinne, Charles O, Charles E, Flora, Victor, Bernease, Daniel, Ignatius have been working incredible hours ON TOP of their day jobs.

@DeepIndaba's best poster runner up prize was a trip to and invited presentation at the World AI Summit in Amsterdam. Visa denied, in spite of a pile of supporting paperwork! These things motivate us to work hard together to create awesome, inclusive AI meetings *in Africa*! -

@Canada government in the conference itself would shine a brighter light. There's an abundance of federal support for the DL power houses here (@VectorInst@MILAMontreal@AmiiThinks), so perhaps they have some sway to help improve the situation. -
The problem is the Canadian government's racist visa policies (and, as seen last year, flagrantly dishonest immigration department). Why would getting closer to them *help*?

My visa got denied twice now! This was supposed to be my first attendance for the conference & the reason for denial seems all too wrapped up in bureaucracy stating I don’t have legit business to attend

I think it’s prudent to follow in the footsteps of
@iclr_conf which is going to be held in Ethiopia. -
Sure, where LGBT people are going to face persecution and no less than one year of jail if they engage in any sexual activity. Yes, let's go to Ethiopia!
