The NRA is chartered in New York, and is thus under the jurisdiction of a Dem AG You might think: why doesn't the NRA move its registration out of New York to a state that may be more friendly to its cause? I researched this legal question a week ago, so I got you fam...
Firstly, the New York AG has jurisdiction over orgs doing business in their state. So unless NRA stopped operating entirely in NY, she would still have jurisdiction
Second, the NRA as an entity can't just disappear from one state and appear in the next They have contracts they have to honor, they have business ties, they have assets they can't just transfer
Thirdly, in New York in particular: "You need approval of the AG before transferring the assets and dissolving for some nonprofits," said Beth Kingsley, a lawyer specializing in nonprofit law. So that path is blocked too
So in conclusion: the NRA (and its entities) can't just un-found itself from New York and found itself in another state For reasons that are either impossible, impractical, or unthinkable
What are the ramifications of targeting an organization's non-profit status merely because you disagree with it's politics? Abuse of power is not a pretty thing simply because they are currently doing your bidding.
Imagine for a moment Texas AG targeted the non-profit status of Planned Parenthood. Imagine the Dems indignation!
