    I still have my first Micromoog. It's doesn't look pretty but it still works. The keyboard is wobbly from spending 15 years in an anvil case.

    Electronic musicians: what was your first synth? Do you still have it? Do you have fond memories of it? (picture of the SH-101 I bought in 1995 and recently brought back to life)

    Step 1: Make up a new musician, someone other than yourself. Give them a name, as well as creative traits different from how you perceive your own, perhaps even in stark contrast with your own. Step 2: Record a duet together, you and the person you invented in Step 1.

    Eventually I can become aware of the mental / feeling process that is creating the tone. It's like a mind muscle, related to the jaw and skull tension. Usually only if I've been very relaxed for days, on vacation, in the forest or something like that. 4/n

    Keep the tone formation moving, keep focusing on even quieter sub-tones. Don't bring them forward, just focus on them being quiet in the background. Let the foreground tones fade. 3/n

    Continue selecting other quieter tones and work to break up the formation. I measure my tinnitus by counting the obvious frequencies. A single one means it's bad and needs to be worked on. It's your mind that is creating these tones. 2/n

    My tinnitus meditation technique: Notice that there are multiple frequencies. Select a quieter one and focus softly on it. As you focus on the second, quieter tone, the primary will gradually recede till you get a double frequency formation. 1/n

    Feeling slightly concerned by the fact I seem to have developed mild tinnitus, despite not having set foot in a loud nightclub in nine months. Obviously I've done plenty of damage to my ears over the years - but why is it cropping up now?
