I think I must just misunderstand the term, I really only see it used when someone's being openly shitty toward women/has obviously one sided shitty takes on dating. But yeah idk, I mean I'm also just not super informed on this stuff

yea it's definitely a little newer in evolving the way it is. you're right - it can be a valid term/insult to someone who deserves it, but it can also be used in exact opposite manner for someone who's unsuccessful in romance/sex due to looks/nerdiness/non-masculine mannerisms

and if I had to connect some dots on the scenario here, it's streamers (likely non-male) who get people coming in their chat calling people who "simp" for their content "incels" and "sad virgins" etc. none of it is welcome, I'm sure.
