god damnit bro. i don't hate you, i don't even hate this conversation. but the current R platform is, indisputably, largely hate-based. people are allowed to be injured by that hatred, and it takes an immense amount of savviness to meaningfully reach across that.
i have tried to extend this kind of grace in my own personal relationships with people, and it has never worked out in a way that made me feel right. like dude, i get where you're coming from, but what you're saying is a billion times easier said than done

I concede that point. Reaching across in good faith to someone you view is supporting something hateful like that can be difficult. I have loved ones that voted R proudly and I don't like it. I struggle discussing it with them sometimes. Sorry for pushing that so strong.

I still believe it's better to keep lines open than to cut people off entirely, which is where this all started, but I do concede that maintaining positive dialogue can be, more often than not, fruitless, and just not worth the emotional toll sometimes.
