Doh. I’ve never used kubernetes. So that makes sense. Is there any other influential tech that uses yaml?

Everything else is worse. And bad DSLs are even worse. Maintaining code for a DSL is a huge distraction. So it’s path of least resistance for projects. Especially small ones can’t afford to maintain anything better.

It’s a little annoying but so far it’s the best format out there for working with arbitrarily arranged configuration. I really think the angst comes from the fact that people hate configuration itself.

Because you can't drop comments in JSON. And JSON is just as annoying to format as YAML is, but ... not, actually. There's even less to worry about character-wise than JSON, it's just spacing. And. NONE. Of us miss XML. It's... actually not that bad, when you think about it.
