  5. At tonight's local history society meeting their will be a talk on Spas in Essex. The meeting starts at 8.00 in St John's Church Hall, Victoria Avenue, Grays, RM16 2LP. Visitors are very welcome at all meetings - £2.00 per meeting.

    So that’s it. The Adult Community College is gone - and with it 120 years of history. No Historic Building records were made, no attempt to preserve any of the heritage of the building. must be very proud.

    If you're having trouble with the 1921 census, beware indexing errors - mine include Lancashire for Lincolnshire and Louth, Ireland for Louth, Lincolnshire.

    A closer view of Johnson's portrait of Sir Alexander Temple - thanks to Viscount Cobham for permission to photograph and use this image. The gorget and the sash are military symbolism. The portrait was probably commissioned to celebrate his appointment as captain of Tilbury Fort.
