Cosby and Woody Allen didn’t fall until the end of their careers, when there was little money to be made from them. Weinstein was active but past his prime. Rudin is at the top of his financial game. There isn’t a sex story to garner interest, either—just run of the mill abuse.https://twitter.com/martinezmau/status/1380280780551643141 …

I am VERY grateful to the ppl on the record in this story, and to the reporter. It's disappointing, but not surprising, that there's a shrug abt him.

Also, assistants are considered to be expendable. I was one. Weinstein involved labor higher up in the hierarchy (actresses). Rudin's notorious treatment of assistants (known for years!) shows above the line Hollywood is NOT going to show up to protect exploited low-level labor.

Someday I'll write something long on this. I am not minimizing sexual harassment. But it's frustrating it's often the only form of workplace abuse that comes in to media focus AND that interest often isn't abt the harassment at all—it's treated as a kind of tawdry infotainment.

Now the Ellen story gave me some hope. When TV audiences found out the fake queen of nice was a fraud, they didn’t like she was abusing her staff and tuned out. Great. But that’s a different relationship. TV audiences can tune out a host their think is a hypocrite.

Movie producers are too diffuse. They’re not the face on camera or even behind the camera. Ellen could mark a moment of audiences rejecting worker debasement. But if anyone is going to hold Rudin to account it would have to be Hollywood talent. And they have too much $ to lose.

I disagree, respectfully. Labor is (clearly) a system of oppression (in Employment Law we even talk about the "employer's right to control") and this system of oppression is fertile land for other sort of intersectional oppression, i.e. sex; so they are not separate but entwined.

I don't think they're separate. I am saying Hollywood won't give a shit, and news media won't give a shit, abt labor abuse. SOMETIMES they key in bc of sex, but that's more about sex as the site of exploitation than it is abt the exploitation (that manifests in many ways)
