if the players hadn't balked at playing sooner, they could have done it on July 5th to celebrate Larry Doby

Jackie is iconic, as a baseball player and also as a person. I will always keep him on the highest of rankings for anyone in baseball history. Satchel is still up there, so are Oscar, Josh, Pop, Buck, Turkey, Mule, Ray, Papa, and Willie too. What matters? Breaking through.

All the years I lived in Brooklyn Heights,
@thorn_john , I always stopped to genuflect at the corner of Montague and Court Streets, at least in the recesses of my un-religious mind. A holy site. -
MLK Jr. described Jackie Robinson as "a sit-inner before the sit-ins, a freedom rider before the Freedom Rides."

Saw this plaque when I was on jury duty a few years back.
