While some are taking solace in the thought that this administration—which disbanded the CDC pandemic team in 2018—performatively prays for the camera, this is a chilling window into their actual epidemiological unpreparedness and incompetence. I had a chem prof in college who was also a deeply religious Christian. I am an atheist, and he was generous in discussing with me how he could be both a man of faith and a man of science. The prayer does not preclude or replace the science.

That’s not to say Pence is a man of science. But I don’t think this group prayer will replace the work of the scientists on his task force. America has long sustained religious communities and scientific innovation. Both of them. At the same time even.

Look. There’s actually one woman in the room. Does Pence know that?

Because ostensibly they will ONLY on prayer. Might they not be combining the two? Might they not be praying for the eyes to see solutions?
I’m no fan of the admin, but I do t begrudge anyone praying for help. -
My problem here, is that religion has no place in our gov't. If they want to pray at home on their own time then fine. But our taxes are paying for that complete waste of time. Also, how many people, who could help, are they looking over because they aren't Christian?
