Agree with all except #1. Learning to write well is one of the most important skills for many careers.

As an FYI, Utah just adopted NGSS (next generation science standards) which focus on problem solving, critical thinking, science practices, etc. I believe many science teachers were teaching these things, it just became official

No, I do, I just think understanding compound interest in your life is the best application of algebra, understanding how to communicate persuasively is the best application of English, and thinking critically is the best application of science.

Can't help the twinge of offense every time I see these types of tweets. It implies teachers do not spend time, energy and their own money teaching these things. It's insulting. helpful edit: More high schools could, I wish more teachers would
