I hate using headsets, the most I can bear with are earphones and even that I hate. I use speakers 90% of the time I play, wonder how close I need to have them to my ears that I won't need to use headsets and without causing damage, hm.

use studio monitors? they're meant for analytical listening the same way that open back studio monitor headphones are. Like the DT990, or the SHP9500 which supposedly are both top tier in comfort. My buddy is an audio engineer and he mixes/games using studio monitors because cozy

Nearfield studio monitors should be fine for stereo imaging and accurate detection of sound sources, the problem would be hearing things behind you. Also, your audio buddy probably has some acoustic treatment, which makes this option way more viable.

Use IEM. It's what musicians wear on stage and the audio quality is amazing. It's expensive though
