there are a lot of people standing up pretending and pretending that they're stating some kind of grand truth by spouting off the same shit that rape culture encourages

attempts to invalidate people who experience trauma from what @sullydish claims are "minor" incidents, like experiencing rape by having someone take a condom off during sex

these people aren't brave. they're standing up for the status quo. they're placing their bets on #MeToo rolling over and all of us going back to being properly quiet like they think we're supposed to be.

many of them-- i'm putting my bet on some of the folks at Harper's being this-- are doing this shit in hopes that their own sexually violent pasts won't get uncovered, or that the way they covered for their friends won't get found out

and saying "oh well i've believed SOME women, so i really AM an ally!" is horseshit. you don't get to use having done the right thing a couple of times and dismissed, belittled and retraumatized the rest

all these people are doing is issuing credibility to the people who are willing to fight for the same points in more vile terms on Fox News, in Breitbart, and in the Federalist

"hmm, maybe trying to stop causing so much more fucking harm to sexual assault victims is going too far" doesn't make you some kind of middle of the road clear-thinker. it makes you, at best, another asshole hoping he can help keep his rapist friend's shit swept under the rug

the correct response to shit like this is pretty much always just "so, is this one a predator himself, or is he covering for someone else?"

don't air your fucking dismissive bullshit in the national press if you don't want everyone to know that no one can trust you personally
