Nice thread about the future of transportation and autonomous cars. The likelihood of the disappearance of anonymous travel should be added to it though...https://twitter.com/ThijsNiks/status/947107828317159424 …

Thread seems to assume autonomous cars as the only way to move in any situation, that everyone will use. Post 3 could almost have been the end of the thread with "bicycle" that would meet requirements for short to mid distances.
Yes. it clearly miss a lot and looks very american to me ;) interesting thoughts though
Requirement about pollution is not met by electric cars. Neither is safety in dense urban environnement. Still 1200kg moving fast.

I’m a huge fan of (electric) bikes, don't think it will work for all of the wants people have. The fun thing is that car sharing fits perfectly with a bike world, as not owning a car means people have more flexibility.https://twitter.com/ThijsNiks/status/947115077169184769 …

While I personally think environmental concerns should weigh strongly in choosing a mode of transport, it so far hasn't. It's a collective benefit and personal cost. Hence my take that technological innovation is a likelier way out.https://twitter.com/ThijsNiks/status/947107834428383232 …
Thijs Niks added,
I'm optimistic that we can get the self-driving car safety incident rate below the point where it'll be a concern. Heck, people even accept the current car safety rate.
What makes you say this view is American, @vincib? Mass transport is better in Europe, but still far below where it should be. Most people still decide not to go somewhere regularly, because our transport options are lacking.
Would love both of your takes on what you think is missing in this overview, as I'm preparing a follow-up thread based on the responses :)
