Great thoughts trapped by the 280 char jail. One potential offset to Jevon's paradox though: we're assuming commuting need won't change in this timeframe. I think that's an interesting bet and not at all obvious.https://twitter.com/ThijsNiks/status/947107828317159424 …

What will road transport look like in the future? A speculative thread of personal thoughts. Hint: The opposite of this picture. pic.twitter.com/PggWKDrF8m

As in: Remote work will become more common? I don’t think that will happen, as people are fundamentally social creatures

It's not either/or. Transport is changing (e.g. w/Uber ;) but so is working (e.g. w/WeWork). Is the future of offices large open-plan spaces in city centres, or flexible spaces in different areas? Maybe ppl won't work remotely much more, but they also aren't tied to one office.

I expect people will continue to gather as many of their colleagues in one space as possible, because that reduces interaction barriers. I could be wrong about that

Most research puts optimum team size between 4 and 10. Companies are increasingly agile-influenced, and becoming more cellular. Talent in major cities is increasingly expensive. There are potential financial and performance benefits available to businesses that try this.

I buy the financial benefits, but I’m not convinced by the performance ones. Yes, small teams are good, but nothing yet beats the high bandwidth of in person conversations (learned the hard way from working in a remote office now)

That's still an either/or mindset, though. What if people work locally 2 days a week? What if increased ability to work during the commute enables more flexible working? Many knowledge workers also benefit from blocks of time without comms. Lots to do here.

I’m sure there will be some development here, but don’t see anything yet that will fundamentally change current behavior. People can already do this and don’t.
