Is it? She got a free ticket to attend a dinner for the 0.1% where she's walking around in THAT. A working class woman who didn't just open a door for herself into these spaces but rammed it down? Nothing complicated about that.
Free ticket? Members of Congress aren't allowed to accept gifts over $100
It’s not like the ticket is worth $35k though
Are people being charged $25?
It’s a charity event. The $35k is a donation.https://www.newsweek.com/met-gala-ticket-cost-money-raised-1627921 …
To me this is the same thing as a loophole. If it is *required* for someone to spend $35k (no matter who it goes to) to gain admission to something, and then someone pays it for you, I believe that is a gift work $35k. The spirit of the law, and so on and so forth.
Also to be clear, I see that other politicians have gone before. So if they all pay to attend that seems fine to me. If they all get invited and no one pays for them, that also seems fine to me. It's just if some specific person pays for any specific politician, that feels gifty.
In this case, nobody pays. I also just don’t think your logic holds: The purpose of the event is to draw attention to the Met and raise money. Nobody expects politicians to be the ones to put in their money
