I'll agree on you with the infrastructure but ticketing a cyclist is the wrong way to deal with it. Redesign the road. Ticketing is just going to discourage people from cycling at all.

I am down with ticketing cyclists that blow through stop signs but the speed limit thing seems pretty random unless it's by an excessive amount.

Hmm there's definitely a conversation there. Most cities that are cycle friendly/safe actually implement rolling stop laws for cyclists as it's actually found to be much safer.

Rolling stop is not what I'm referring to, plenty of cyclists in Portland suburbs continue through stop signs at nearly full speed and it's exhausting as a driver. Requires more attention than pedestrians and other cars alike

Oh yeah for sure. I wonder if this is why the Dutch don't really have them, I rarely saw a stop sign in the Netherlands. I was perplexed by how many there are in North America 😅

Lol suburbs are the worst for them and the US has plenty of suburbs, makes sense

Yeah for real, it blew my mind when I first visited! So few roundabouts compared to back home, constantly stopping 😅

Stop signs are the laziest and clunkiest form of traffic engineering, but sadly most North American cities don’t know any better

The usage of stop signs in north america is IMO overkill and ridiculous. So frustrating as both a driver and cyclist and I think that's what leads to their abuse.

Agreed. One reason stop signs are so prevalent is because North American cities generally allow everyone to use every road, instead of designing traffic networks to separate transport modeshttps://youtu.be/c1l75QqRR48

It took 4 years but so happy we got this stop sign at Moscow and France to make the access to Crocker Park safer for pedestrians. Thanks to all the neighbors who advocated for this. - ty @sfmta_muni @jeffreytumlin pic.twitter.com/Co2HC2rZqc
