Fair... though plenty of zero days still escape of course - I don't think it's a good argument for a fully centralized model on its own however
Zero days are always a problem but not part of the threat model for 99.999999% of users. I don’t like the centralized model either, but it undeniably made “installing an app” something regular user actually can and want to do.
Ya, though I'd argue that this risk is apple conveniently hiding behind the excuse that it's impossible to do because it benefits itself vs just needing good UX
I don’t think that’s true though. Allow side-loading and a whole bunch of heavyweight apps (Epic, Microsoft) will start teaching users how to avoid the App Store (see Mac) and you quickly get average joe in trouble
I think you’re right Besides, Android proves to be a decent case study in what kind of potential dangers there are in allowing side-loading Not to mention how it could change the privacy landscape and affect devs
