Increasing the gas tax would be an effective rallying point for Republicans. We should link the vehicle sales tax to weight and emission first, as well as remove the gas guzzler tax exemption for heavy vehicles. New car buyers are a much smaller constituency than all drivers. https://twitter.com/carterforva/status/1376219699424428032 …

Yeah, the Netherlands does both and I think it makes sensehttps://twitter.com/thijsniks/status/1376344201311313920 …
Thijs Niks added,
Thijs Niks @thijsniksEurope has an emission-based tax https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/individuals/car-taxation/passenger-car-taxation_en … And the Netherlands taxes by weight https://www.belastingdienst.nl/wps/wcm/connect/bldcontentnl/belastingdienst/prive/auto_en_vervoer/belastingen_op_auto_en_motor/motorrijtuigenbelasting/ … Because heavier cars increase road maintenance cost and fatalities, so those externalities should be captured https://www.nber.org/papers/w17170 https://web.archive.org/web/20160518002919/http://pedalfortcollins.com/greatest-demand-on-tax-dollars/ …Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
