To be honest though: I assume one of the spin-off effects Gurley expects from 3 decacorns is early employees using their stock option returns to reinvest in the ecosystem. Which doesn’t happen in Amsterdam, because Dutch companies are stingy.

Totally agree. One of the reasons why Dutch techs won’t become a trillion dollar giant. I believe it’s now even worse, seems like Adyen just stopped handing out stock post IPO. Makes no sense imho.

The lack of employee equity creates two problems in my view: - Harder to attract and retain talented people - Experienced operators won't be able to fund the next wave The first makes it harder to build a truly giant company, whereas the latter reduces the number of startups
