I think being open to criticism would help the democrats. Self censorship might lead people to vote the other way. I also think these hyperboles (fascist) don’t help and create even more polarization.
Why dissuade people from voting if the alternative is a fascist? This is not about being open minded, it’s about not wanting to kill democracy

I also didn’t get the American conservatives for a long time, but after reading more American history I start to understand it more (still not my ideology).

The difference between China and US is still so big that I don’t think the premise of the article works. And I don’t think democracy is dead here, but Republicans are certainly trying to kill it.
