We have lived in the US for 18 months now and had to deal with more fraudulent charges on our cards and bank accounts (about $2000
) than in the previous 30 years of living in Europe (a nice round $0).
I just don’t understand everyone is ok with this broken system.

Omg this sounds like hell. I've been surprised to have *none* so far here, but I wonder if it's because magstripe is dead and you don't have to give your card over at a restaurant?

It’s really bad. Has happened to 3 different cards now. Does Canada require pin or is everything signature?

I think pin is required everywhere (never done a signature), gas stations included, so I'm guessing that's the big difference. Even at a restaurant you just use the machine yourself at the table

Definitely the big difference. Chip+pin is two factor authentication and probably authenticated in real time with the bank
