Startup idea: a company that sells title insurance for 80% less than it currently costs (and handles escrow). Racket and a big market. Seems like a straightforward >$1B company.

The whole concept of title insurance astonished me when I moved to the US. How can you not have a registry of who owns the land?!

A slightly different point, but perhaps worth mentioning: although the Land Registry has been keeping records since 1862, it still doesn't have ownership registers for 15% of the freehold land in England & Wales
