Her criticism is largely around strategy for elderly homes and fully agree, it’s a tragedy. It seems, though, they got some things right and some wrong. It should inform how to move forward. Spend all resources protecting the vulnerable. Open up economy + masks for rest.

It seems though that no country has figured out how to truly protect the vulnerable (because care home staff lives in the real world/vulnerable people live in the real world/we don’t exactly know who’s vulnerable)

Totally and sadly still true. Perhaps simplifying this a bit, but guessing we could solve it if we redirected trillions of dollars at the problem.

Seems South Korea, Taiwan, New Zealand, and some other countries have found a way to keep the death rate down though

Japan as well. If I’m not mistaken all but New Zealand did so without months of lockdowns. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-05-22/did-japan-just-beat-the-virus-without-lockdowns-or-mass-testing …

Without lockdowns because they had testing, tracing and isolation capacity. Lockdowns are only necessary if you need to build that capacity, which is the case in most of Europe

Japan is a weird case. Seemed to spin out of control and then didn’t. Still don’t quite understand it

Japan is indeed an outlier. Always felt like New Zealand is a difficult comp to use as well.
