The app that the panel are talking about is “Tikkie” https://apps.apple.com/nl/app/tikkie/id1112935685?l=en …. Why doesn't paym have any traction @PaulThomalla? #EBADay

Replying to @dgwbirch @PaulThomalla
The slow uptake of Paym is because you are sending money (as opposed to Tikkie’s payment requests) and you need to register for it

Paym really is a proxy service, whereas Tikkie does payment initiation. Credit transfers in the UK require just the recipient’s sort and account number, so that’s easier to ask for than having them sign up for Paym?

Yes, but unintended consequences of direct debit fraud, as happened early after the SEPA migration from a small number of countries. If Paym had taken off it would have been a good way to find out the account name (as registered) against a mobile phone number ...

How large and frequent is direct debit fraud? Seems it’s under control in Germany and the Netherlands

I’d be interested if you think there are good statistics. I note that SurePay in the Netherlands has in the last couple of years developed a service to confirm ownership of accounts.

SurePay is great! Account number <> name confirmation used to be standard in the Netherlands before the SEPA migration and this brings it back

BTW I launched Bank Wizard Absolute at Sibos 2007 in Boston which did confirmation of name, address, DoB, account opening date, for U.K. consumer accounts initially.

Nice! It’s crazy to me that SEPA doesn’t have a standardized identity service yet
