Do you know why at least most Dutch ISP’s started doing this? Around 10 years ago, a bug in .nl registry deleted all ns records for providers that updated a domain. So most big ISP’s had all domains down because there ‘main’ ns records disappeared.

Only happend for a few hours, and only for ‘glue’ records: when example-nl also had ns-example-nl nameservers. Within a few days most ISP ran different tld’s as nameservers so the don’t need glue records for all nameservers, preventing downtime on such errors.
