Open sourcing the self-driving stack would work to reduce the car/driver cost, if Uber has a strong enough lock on the marketplace. Similar to how Android puts a computer with Google ads into the hands of more people.

That's a bit of a grand take. Not every project is going to change the world, but every well-done project builds goodwill and respect and that kind of thing adds up. My point was more that it's never incentivized or rewarded at any level usually
