I think they need to comply with their regular visa restrictions. Aka on an H-1B you can be unemployed for 60 (?) days, on OPT you can be unemployed for 90 days, etc. Super tough to find a new job that quickly :(

Yup, regular visa rules apply. So most visa holders will have to find a new job that will sponsor them and then hope it gets processed fast enough. Other visa holders are tied to the company (like L1) and will have to return home.
