Alright folks, I need your help: The English-language web seems to have figured out that Taiwan uses cellular location for contact tracing and Singapore uses an app. But what does South Korea use?

Far as I know, tracing is basically all done manual. GPS is used along with CCTV/Ccard/etc to re-verify patient's testimony. Limited info of +ve case's path is released to the public for general population to avoid it or come forth voluntarily for testing. No live-time tracking.

Live-time network is only used for those in compulsory quarantine via govt's app. App used to relay symptoms twice a day and tracks location via phone so that they do not break quarantine. Also actual low-tech random phone calls used check whether they leave without their phone.

So to reiterate, location data from the past is used only when needed on an already identified patient to determine their past path of movement. Known contacts that are identified is first tested and if they test positive than their past path of movement is mapped and shared too.

Thank you! This is super insightful

This path info is released and those in population that think they might have come in contact, voluntarily come forth to get tested catching cases govt might have missed. Data also compiled by private entities and mapped onto various apps & sites for ease of uses by the masses.

Lastly, Korea isn't using fancy high-tech super big brother surveillance system to oppressively track sheepish citizens like many falsely claim. Korea is a democracy with same high regard for privacy as the west. It's using common sense measures w/ as little violation as possible
