Alright folks, I need your help: The English-language web seems to have figured out that Taiwan uses cellular location for contact tracing and Singapore uses an app. But what does South Korea use?

On your Q, sorta of yes but just want to STRESS it is done limitedly through law enforcement as mass public screening is logistically unrealistic and also invasion of privacy. Just to be clear Korea does not use tech to massively survelliance the general population. 1/n

Many outside think Korea's general population is under some sort of constant survelliance by the govt all the time but that is just NOT TRUE. It is more detective work using CCard use/CCTV/Transport use/GPS/etc limitely as tools to fill and confirm +ve patient's interview. 2/n

Got it. Where does one get the GPS data from though?

Far as I know, there has been couple of mass screenings (Shinchunji church and Seoul call center) but that was done low-tech by getting contact details from the church and individually contacting them and for call center, just testing everyone working at that bldg. 3/n

Stress again that most in the west mistakenly think all Korean live under Big Brother or there is some super-tech but that is only in the movies. Most is just utilizing already existing available tech as common sense aid to help in individual detective work case by case. 4/n

Please refer to Korean govt's official manual on Covid19 response (in English). App use is on page 35 & contact tracing on page 41. See link. 5/nhttps://twitter.com/moohann1/status/1250555506277494784?s=20 …

Ok, so if I understand this correctly: Korea uses manual tracing first and, if that eventually fails, they can use network location on a case by case basispic.twitter.com/t9x5KL2a4K
