Alright folks, I need your help: The English-language web seems to have figured out that Taiwan uses cellular location for contact tracing and Singapore uses an app. But what does South Korea use?
And do you happen to know how phone location is used in general for contact tracing? So for locals who did not have to quarantine and still test positive

Yup, everyone (asymptomatic, symptomatic, confirmed, non-confirmed) who arrives in Korea has to download a self-diagnosis app and enable GPS and location sharing. If you seek shelter-in-home, a case worker is assigned to monitor whereabouts and checks in x2-3/day.

You can check out the self-diagnosis app by South Korean MINISTRY OF HEALTH & WELFARE on

Not 100% sure whether phone location is used for general contact tracing. My assumption was when once someone is confirmed as COVID19 positive, South Korean government traces whereabouts via all measures including phone records, credit card statements and etc. Don't quote me tho.
