It's a fine headset but it's quite present.

Yeah, I worry it might be too visible/distracting/intimidating. Hard to find other comfortable, sleek, and reasonably priced headsets though.

Compared to other over ear headsets it's really quite minimal. You could consider something on-ear which usually has a smaller profile.

I'm thinking of going a step up to a huge gamer headset with boom mic just for the aesthetic. Then we'll have one setup with a miked headset, and we can build out the Sony with a USB microphone for another calling/recording setup.

I’ve been using the Sennheiser hd 201 for many years now, and it is fine

I had that one too and switched to the Sony as the next step up.

No clue anymore. I just bought the Wirecutter recommendation in the next price class and have not regretted it. Also very nice for listening to music on the couch.

That’s my preferred purchasing strategy: Whatever the Wirecutter recommends for my budget

I used a Sony MDR-7506 for years as a studio monitor, but for casual listening I find it too harsh in the high frequencies. Great value for money though and pretty sturdy. I can recommend the Beyerdynamic DT 990, super comfy and not tiring even after hours of use.

Those look… even more intimidating? And they are open? That unfortunately wouldn’t work
