It’s hard to argue with someone who thinks that our state being too small is the source of our problems when: 1. It’s bigger than it’s ever been 2. The countries that have best responded to covid have states about half the size of ours
I hate being one the guy whose existing ideology is magically validated by the current events, and I’ll admit that crises such as this one show the need for “state capacity” and strong centralized leadership. But you cannot blame this crisis on the fictional smallness of our govt

At the core is mostly that the increase in spend since the 1980s has not decreased inequality, whereas before it did. So there is a fair argument that too much of the spend is being diverted for other causes.
