Everyday the thought hits me that I live in a country with private health care and it bothers me equally every time. I moved away from Sweden almost 6 years ago, will I ever ever let this go or nah?
Fascinating. What benefits does Sweden offer that the Netherlands does not? I guess longer parental leave surely is one of them

In general they offer the same but in different ways, plus it’s hard for me to argue as I have lived in the Dutch system barely 2 years, meaning I compare everything. Longer paternal leave is the number one fundamental thing that I cannot wrap my head around how it’s so short

(Comparison is good! Few people experience multiple systems, so you’re in a uniquely knowledgeable position)

The Swedish government does spend A LOT more money than the Dutch one https://data.oecd.org/gga/general-government-spending.htm …pic.twitter.com/ZttJqQXcEw

Another thing is “Ungdomsmottagning” or as I translate it to “youth clinics”, it’s medical staff, psychiatrists and so on and a medical clinic but for teenagers up to 26th. It’s efficient and a safe place for many teens when they grew up and especially young girls.

Ooooh, that sounds really cool

It’s a lot smaller, and local and you can access abortions, the pill for girls, gynecologist and so on

Here I have to do everything myself, but always start with my GP and then they tell me who to call and where to go and I need to organize it all. Here I was even given options to diffeeent Gynos to go to which was so bizarre? Haha
-
Interesting. What’s strange about that? Not that I need one, but I always assumed you get along with some doctors better than others so choice is important?

Back home if I have to go to a specialist doctor; it’s all in the same building or at a different hospital close by. My doctor or nurse will just book me for an appointment and tell me when to come. I’m the patient and it’s not my job to be doing research haha
-
That’s definitely a downside of the Dutch system: While it gives more options, it can also be overwhelming for many people
