Everyday the thought hits me that I live in a country with private health care and it bothers me equally every time. I moved away from Sweden almost 6 years ago, will I ever ever let this go or nah?
What makes it feel like it’s a very high cost? The fact that you didn’t have to pay it yourself before? At €120/m it’s lower than rent, groceries, transport, etc. But probably triple of cell phone bills https://www.consumentenbond.nl/zorgverzekering/premieoverzicht-basisverzekering …

Part of what people argue in the Netherlands is that citizens being aware that they pay for healthcare helps keeps the cost down, but I’m not necessarily convinced the added complexity outweighs the cost

Interesting argument, I’ve heard it’s also so people don’t over use the system. Which is a stupid argument in my opinion but I see the point. People won’t go to the doctors if they don’t have to

Because i pay the same amount of tax on average, yet have this additional cost of €120 each month. Hence why it feels higher and more expensive and inefficient for me as I do not go to the doctor once a week but more like 2 times a year. Yet pay this premium

Right, but on average tax+insurance in the Netherlands is the same amount as just the tax in Sweden (depends a bit on how much you make though). So it’s an interesting (and important!) psychological consideration
