Nothing comprehensive comes to mind. The biggest difference was the A380 is for hub and spoke; the 787 for long and thin. The latter appears to have won given the frequency it affords and the difficulty airlines have filling an A380.
Has anyone written the definitive take on the Airbus vs Boeing strategy of the last 30 years? Specifically interested in the impact of A380 vs 787

Before this, both manufacturers competed with aircraft that appeared somewhat similar which I assume reflected the market demand. The A380 was a step change vs. the 747 though and now appears to be an aircraft way ahead of its time (overall).

From what I understood (from someone in the airline/airport business), Boeing made the right bet on hub & spoke model with the 787.
