I was today years old when I learned that stock in SF startups is taxed as income instead of gains. That can't be right, is it?!?

For employees, stock is part of compensation (ie, 1 month employed is 1 month vested) and it thus makes sense to tax it as income. Which is what most Western countries do per OECD recommendation http://www.oecd.org/general/oecdrecommendscommontax-treatyapproachestoemployeestock-options.htm …

The insane thing is that California (and NY) don’t care about these OECD guidelines and are happy to disregard Foreign Tax Credits/double tax expat income
