I think many people underestimate the cost of DIY. I can find many articles, high-quality as well, that will cost me much less then anything I'd be able to build or print myself. High-volume production, including shipping, will remain cheaper for a lot of products.

DIY is perfect for either 'hacky' builds, temporary things or builds that have very specific requirements. For commodity stuff, commercial stuff will most oftenly be cheaper

Also governments. Regulating airspace for increased drone activity would be a literal nightmare. Plus safety and security regulations would ultimately prevail and stop any meaningful advancement in drone activity in urban airspaces.

The idea of 3D printing is not to print stuff you can order from store. It is to print something which you cannot find from store. Like a spare part for an old product.
