The Dutch government built a private and secure alternative for email, including public key infrastructure and mobile apps, to send messages to citizens. This has the potential to become an international standard, if it were to be open sourced https://www.logius.nl/ondersteuning/mijnoverheid/ …pic.twitter.com/HYmgiaCkE2

Hope @Logius_minbzk also builds a SDK so agencies can embed a version of the government message inbox in their own apps. It would display only messages from that agency, thereby reducing the need to duplicate infrastructure and unifying the experience.

Most government messages are concerned with payments, so a logical next step would be to support deep links into (Dutch) banking services. And further down the line a way to queue these payments in the banking services automatically (ie, bill presentment & payment).

Is it opt-in or mandatory? And will it be used by all authorities?

It’s opt in for both citizens and government agencies. The tax office is by far the largest sender, with 50 million messages (for 18 million citizens). Social security (15m) and the car agency (5m) are next.pic.twitter.com/O1hAAuocD5

Nice!

Yup! Heel vreemd. Heb ik me ook over verbaasd. En de DigiD app zou sowieso push authenticatie moeten gaan gebruikenhttps://duo.com/product/trusted-users/two-factor-authentication/authentication-methods/duo-push …

I haven't seen the code but I doubt it would be easy to Open Source, however, it might be worth rebuilding it with the lessons learned together with a group of other governments.

Open sourcing never is easy, but this seems generic enough to be worth a shot. Rebuilding it without a customer/implementation would be tough
