Is there any particular reason why Chinese seem to prefer a bolt instead of a cog for a settings icon? Seen it on two Oneplus and Xiaomi.

Last Steam update added some strings for this:
> This feature allows your PC to transfer game files to and from other PCs or Steam Decks on your local network, reducing your Internet traffic while downloading or updating a game
Can limit to own devices, friends, or any user.

I did a little hackery to upload something using this, the confirmation prompt is same as the one in Steam chat.
Once upload is done the response says that the appid was in fact 2272610.
So what does Valve want users to upload from some event page on the store?

I looked more closely at the "Valve Event Upload", it's an appid for cloud storage, they added a [uploadfilebutton] bbcode for use on sale pages (allowing anyone to upload something?).
This bbcode only works for Valve group and store promotion groups.

Assumptions out of thin air.
What's more likely is they just made that app for cloud storage space, similar to how steam chat images are uploaded (it also has its own app), which is corroborated by the JS changes that touched cloud uploads. github.com/SteamDatabase/

Quite a hefty VRF release (Source 2 file parser/viewer) thanks to community members. Some performance improvements, better and faster glTF exports!

So is this useful for you during the winter sale?
Quote Tweet
I shipped an experiment to display 2-year lows on sales page for logged in users.
I'm trying things out, it's not as trivial as it may sound to do this (and I haven't implemented all the requirements yet).

Some things like app hovers and extension endpoints cache in cloudflare due to request volume. Most pages are dynamic.

It's just one dedicated server with cloudflare in front to do static asset caching. It's still nginx/php8/mariadb. Some heavy stuff like sales page data are in memcached.
Here's last 7 days showing the effect of winter sales starting.

They added this when the sale started, should arrive as one of these 'marketing messages'.

Steam Winter Sale is on! We gave our sales page a small face lift.
Logged in users will also see a "Show only 2-year lows" filter, which we are experimenting with to show lowest prices for the past two years.
Try it out:

I don't think it ever cost more than 100€ monthly to run (and it's currently much less).

Looks a little something like this (obviously unfinished).
It does load fast, and then sends requests to get achievement progress per game while scrolling (it didn't load for me).

Looks like Valve is working on refreshing that page by rewriting in React, so hopefully that fixes the issues.

Since Valve refuses to fix performance of the "all games" page on Steam community profiles, I did it for them: github.com/SteamDatabase/
All I did was hook the row building and make it build into a fragment (temporary element), and not append all the sub menu popups to body.

Did Musk solve bots in replies by not loading replies at all? Seems like half the tweets I expand show no replies despite counter being in hundreds.

It still runs cheaply, still without ads, compared to the scale and traffic it has.

.@wargaming_net is just borderline abusing Steam's inventory system by sending "free gifts" to people that don't even play the game.
I just imagine every game on Steam sending spam like this.

Advent of Code is going well so far, 5.4 milliseconds to solve 14 days combine (with 4ms of that total being spent on day 11).

Somehow my server's ipv6 subnet is globally banned by Google's appengine, and it just gives 403 forbidden. Tried different urls so it's not just some particular user that banned me.
How do I even contact Google to resolve this?

Did you know there's a button to align the games to their respective release date so easily see the player fall off?

They're using a library to parse Source 2 assets me and a few other folks work on, because it's apparently easier to use this than trying to interop with C++ even when they have the engine source code.

Even cooler, it now displays how many people unlocked a badge as reported by the Steam API (scarcity).
For example, 300 million have Years of Service badge.

There are no concrete plans yet, I am gathering thoughts.
Keep in mind for older games the historical low could be as old as 10 years ago. Also consider currencies that increased a lot more than USD.

I'm thinking historically low prices on SteamDB need to be limited to X years due to price increases and inflation (especially in certain regions).
Are there other ideas? How many years should it be limited to? Should it not change?

Upgraded SteamDB's badges page to display your level and xp information, as well as your level for each badge.
Seasonal badges are displayed separately now.

Fediverse is cool and all, but what I'm seeing is people signing up for a few large instances, kinda defeating the point of federation.
That being said, Mastodon isn't exactly trivial to self host (I brielfy tried gotosocial, but is there a good web interface?)
