        There are actual marsupials in the south of Paris. They escaped from a zoo in 1998 and proliferated without any natural predators. Sometimes they cause a car crash, people have to tell insurances they saw a kangaroo. The town needed to issue a statement to convince insurances.

        In October 1998 a couple in Iowa purchased "rapture insurance", fearing that the coming millennia signaled the start of the end times. When nothing happened the husband went into hiding to get the payout but was found by the police.
