Convalescing from his illness, Nietzsche gathered the forces of his body to strike against his mind. With each attack, his “body liberated itself a little more from its own agent,” and his “self was broken down into a lucidity that was more vast but more brief” (Klossowski 1969).pic.twitter.com/p8KqBEAWET

I wonder if this (devastating!) process was in some small part inspiration for D&G's eventual schizo-analysis exercise.

Absolutely! Here’s D&G citing Klossowski: “There is no Nietzsche-the-self, professor of philology, who suddenly loses his mind [...]; rather, there is the Nietzschean subject who passes through a series of states, and who identifies these states with the names of history” (AO 21)

fuck... that's brilliant. What is curious is how and why D&G seemed to back away from schizo-analysis as a production process. Any insight?

Not sure yet, but there’ll be more D&G posts to come, and I’ll be keeping an eye out for this topic.

Tonic immobility has been hypothesized to occur in humans under intense trauma including sexual assault. While "freezing" in response to lifethreatening situations is well-known, the common "freeze" response exhibited by victims of rape is often misunderstood as passive consent.[
