Deleuze & Guattari’s academic reception shows “how quickly a politics of the rhizomatic can assuage the unhappy guilty conscience of the depoliticized intellectual by offering [the] alibi of a process in which everything one does [...] one can pretend is politically engaged.”
This is, to my constant annoyance, so true of how D&G are taken up within social sciences. This is acute within the scholarship that follows the wake of Hardt & Negri's books. Žižek isn't completely wrong in arguing that such scholarship maps the present capitalist ideology.
