Does it make sense to help a thug beat up someone else for an unreliable promise that you won't be next?

It pays to step away and observe.

Observe what? That resistance is futile? It certainly is if you let the biggest kid in the bloc isolate his targets from each other.

Russia doesn't want China to get to bigneitherm Have the two big powers exhaust each other is a good strategy.
-
China is a lesser threat and relying on mutual exhaustion of the others did nearly doom Stalin's USSR in the early 1940s.

America has messed up relations with Russia beyond repair. The Russians quite rightly see America as unpredictable and unreliable, a desperate power in terminal decline. Better to have good relations with the future global hegemon instead of a washed-up has-been.

You guys keep saying that but countries have no friends, only interests. The US is decadent as fuck but its not in terminal decline as a world power. Not even close.

Kissinger is a decent diplomat but he’s not a god. He can accomplish anything if he has nothing to work with, which he doesn’t. Current political climate of US will not allow an rapprochementto happen. Hell, a new sanction was put on yesterday.
