    ✅ The final wing is now deployed! Before we celebrate, we’ve still got work to do. The team is working hard at to latch the wing into place, a multi-hour process. When the final latch is secure, will be fully unfolded in space.

    Webb's secondary mirror is fully deployed!! It ultimately had to work the first time without error… and it did!!

    Today teams successfully deployed the observatory’s secondary mirror (animation👇). This mirror plays an important role in reflecting the light from the primary mirror to where the instruments sit, behind the primary mirror. Details:

    The sunshield separates the observatory into a warm, sun-facing side (max temp of the outermost layer is 383K or 230° F), and a cold side (temp of 36K or -394° F). The five-layer sunshield ensures the telescope operates under 50K (-370F) 🥵🥶

    JWST has passed the altitude of the Moon! AND completed MCC1b or Mid Course Correction Burn 1b - which fine-tunes Webb's trajectory after launch. There are three mid-course correction (MCC) maneuvers: MCC-1a, MCC-1b, and MCC-2.
