Not too long before tournament began last night, this little boy and his father walk in. The dad asks about the tournament, and Aposl explains the whole situation to them and signs the kid up. Turns out his tag is Lando Beamer, making him the coolest 7 year old on the planet.

They brought their setup, which is awesome! They go get everything together and I peep over. The kid apparently plays using the Gamepad (which makes sense, parents probably using the TV) and is playing 8 player FFA against the CPU on Super Mario Maker.

Not every setup has a Gamepad but that’s fine, I can make it work for him. The other question though… What am I gonna do with little Lando in bracket? If I seed him low he’ll end up against like ZD or Dexter, and that’s no fun.

I think and think and think until finally I come across @ColdWeatherr and match the two up. Cold is one of our up and coming players that’s been taking games off the PR here and there. He’s serious about his grind but also knows how to step back and have fun every now and then.

Tourney starts and I call their match. I tell Cold his opponent is a kid and ask him not to go too hard on him before going to call some other matches. When I come back to see what's up I nearly died. They're playing on Pirate Ship, laughing it up and having a blast.

Lando is a Sonic main, and he’s zipping around as the bombs and all are going off. He’s loving this. The bombs manage to break Cold’s shield and Cold says “Hit me as hard as you can man.” He charges fsmash, the grin on his face man I wish you all could see it! It was too much.

Of course Cold manages to win game 1, but it’s all in good fun. They go to Super Mario Maker for game 2 and Lando is running around talking all kinds of trash (“I’m gonna get you!” it’s so innocent oh my god) and like, for a moment I wish I could just pause everything.

I almost forgot I had a tournament to run I was so busy watching these two have fun. Lando’s opponent in losers (Diffy, whose Twitter I don’t have) kept the same mood going, which was great.

I have nothing but the utmost praise for these two players of mine, who went out of their way to show a young kid a good time, something he’s probably gonna go to school and tell all his friends about.
